Customer needs
The project is a photovoltaic system to provide electricity to a large supermarket. The supermarket is connected to the grid and the PV system was chosen to save on electricity costs to begin with. The requirement was to just meet the daily electricity supply, with the possibility of using electricity from the grid on rainy days, although some storage was needed for emergencies. Its daily electricity consumption is roughly 4MWh-4.8MWh, with variations at different times of the day.
1.5MW / 1MWh off grid solar energy system
Based on these requirements, a 1.5MWp / 1MWh PV system has been developed. Firstly, the 1.5MW of PV panels will produce an average of 4.6MWh of electricity per day in the local area, the majority of which will be used up on the same day. What is not used up will be stored in the batteries. At certain times of the day, when the electricity consumption is high, the daily electricity generated will be completely used up and if there is still a shortage, the electricity stored in the batteries can be used or the mains electricity can be used to supplement it. In this way, the utilisation and return on investment of the system will be significant.
